I fiinished reading George Orwells book 1984, sorry if my other thread seems to have petered out. I didn't enjoy it, but i guess it wasn't there to be enjoyed.

I didn't find it that depressing, it's fiction. I also didn't find it was very accurate as a "prediction". For instance, newspeak... he didn't predict the advent of the Internet or the sheer amount of free speech we get now- for everyone and anyone. Many of his views couldn't have been more wrong. Big Brother, maybe...
interesting piece here from Margaret Attwood, Emm. 1984 and The Handmaid's Tale both being seen as dystopian novels.
I agree 1984 is depressing, but it was intended to end on. if not a high, then at least a note of optimism.

Yes, and usually I'm glad of it. I get good suggestions from Prime, of what I would like. Feel safer, due to CCTV and appreciate being able to contact people, emergency services better. For me, it's more good than bad.
Thoughtcrime, never happened, even 40 years later- yes, we still have "trends", but are still able to communicate mostly what you want (may not apply to obvious racists).
