I need to get two bookcases attached to a wall.  I will get a diy person in to do it and other stuff.

What type of nails or whatever should I purchase?

Can the same thing be used to attach shelving units to wetwall?

You will need  wall plugs, the type depends on the wall construction, (solid, cavity, plaster board, concrete, brick  etc) and screws long enough to go through the  items and go into the wall at least ¾ of the length of the wall plug.  However if you are getting a chairperson to do it they should be able to choose and supply the right kit.

The diy person should provide appropriate nails and fixings. Don't hire a diy person and then tell them what to do.

If the bookcases will be standing on the floor, so that you only need to ensure that they don't tip over, you can simply tie the top of each bookcase to the wall with straps, as shown in the 'Method 1' bit of this link:

Otherwise scroll down to 'Method 2' in my first link above.  The size of the angle brackets you'd need would depend upon how heavy the bookcase will be when filled.  For most situations, these should:

Remember that the wall will need to be plugged where the screws are inserted into it.

Atheist, I wanted to be organised for once.

Chris, the floor in the flat are not flat.  The living room is actually a different height from the rest of the place.  I need serious scaffolding to keep the bookcases upright.

My fitted kitchen should be fully installed next week - unless something else goes wrong.  

The bookcases, new desk and bathroom storage are next.  I just want it all done before Santa 🎅 comes.

Doing DIY on someone else's property is very risky - as an avid DIYer myself, I would want a complete say in materials/fittings used.

That's a good idea Tilly, they would probably do it for nothing if they're kept well supplied with coffee and biscuits/cakes throughout the job.

The kitchen fitters have managed to create havoc by setting off smoke alarm and flooding the flat and the shop downstairs by putting a nail through a water pipe.  They managed to switch off the water to the entire building overnight.  No way are they getting near my bookcases😅

Sorry to say but you can't get a DIY person to do a job for you as DIY stands for Do it yourself. You can of course get a Handy man/person to do the job for you.😀
