Being recently breaved, I imagined that I had dealt (with my deceased partners brothers help) all the paperwork.

Then it occured to me that the BT/Broadband bill was paid by direct debit!

I didn't want the phone(my lifeline lately) to be cut off.

I called BT customer service, and was mightily impressed.

They have a Brereavement helpling.

The guy steered me through it all, and was incredibly helpful and understanding.

He canceled the old direct debit, and put a new one in place on my bank account.

All done and dusted in about 10 minutes!

I didn't even have to change my landline number, and although I could not find the BT account number,he still managed to fix it.

As you will appreciate, living in an isolated spot, the landline is a big thing. The people that are supporting me would not be able to get me,but thanks to BT they now will.

100% Thanks to BT Customer service.

That is excellent service, if only they were all like that

That's wonderful, Noseynose, I'm deighted that you are coping so well now. Good luck for the future x

^ delighted!

Well, it's good to read that BT has been able to help you with this.

How are you feeling at the moment, is life getting a bit easier for you?

I wish you well.

Too true barry, but it's a boost to know BT are on the ball.

Thank You,Barsel,

It's bit of a big dipper, one day up,one day down.

I still don't think that I realise that Billy has gone,I am frightened when I am alone, that it will( and sometimes does) hit home hard to me.I cannot bring him back,so have to tolerate it?

I don't know if you are aware Nosey but some banks have a different telephone number for over 60s, disabled, etc.  You get through quickly and the staff go out of their way to help with anything you find difficult.  I use The Nat West over 60 service.  I too live out in the wilds!

Well done NN.

Well done B.T!
And really glad to hear that you are soldiering on and dealing with obstacles like this as and when they crop up. Sending you a Smowball hug xx

Thank You Countrylover

for that info, I shall look into it.

I am attempting to get a free TV licence,I am over 75,but they need you to "download" a few documents,I have no idea how to do this.

Then monthly direct debit,is £13.25,so till I can  find how to download,I will soldier on by paying.

NN --If you are on pension credit then you should get a free tv licence.

pleased to hear it. I got a lot of help from the bereavement departments of various organisations (eg banks) when I needed it.

Question Author

Thank You andres,

I tried to get a free TV licence, but as I said before, they require you to "download"  a few documents online to get it,and I don't know how to do that.

Sorry, but I have taken the easy way out,and am paying £13.25 a month, until I find out how to download easily?.

They certainly don't make it easy!

TV Licensing 0300 790 6117

If you think you’re eligible for a free licence but can’t apply online, please call 0300 790 6117* and speak to advisors to request an application form (lines are open between 8.30am and 6.30pm, from Monday to Friday).

Question Author

Thank You so much Floko😁,

As I don't know how to "download" online,I think that an actual application form might be easier.

I will investigate,and report back,

NN---  Ring the phone number that  TheWinner @17.11 has given. Then you will get an application form.

Just thinking of anything else that might crop up:

Sky or any other TV service that you pay for

Magazine/newspaper subscriptions

Other online subscriptions eg. Audible

Amazon

Ebay

House insurance

Mobile phone contracts

yes, you could go through bank statements and see if there are any direct debits or other recurring payments you don't  know about.

My bank, when asked, provided me with a list of direct debits and standing orders, yours should be able to do the same for you.
