Hello, I have a spider plant that seems to be being eaten by something and it definately isn't the cat. Tiny cicles missing out of the middle of the leaves and half moons on the edges. Any ideas? all the other house plants are untouched.

Well there are insects which do this but I did not think that you would get them in the UK, we have something which looks like a medium size fly with very lacy wings which does exactly this to plants.

How bizarre... thank you for the answer, will I be able to see the little critter by eye? only seems to be happening at night. Now, on a point, I have been watering it with water from the water butt, and my partner did warn me there would be creatures in the water, but the money plant thrives on it. Shall I go back to tap water?
Sounds like a tiny caterpillar or lavae of some sort, try ruffling the leaves smartly and with luck it will fall out. Judy

Hi judypark, just given it a good shake and cannot see anything of huge significance falling out. You'd think it would be rather large because of the amount it's eating! any ideas on spraying it with something organic? or should I put a small cup of beer in the soil?

judy! I've just seen a very tiny flying thing just go past my eyline! almost like a fruit fly which, since all the fruit is in the fridge, shouldn't be possible. urgh...
