Hi jenmac I am no expert on either but have done both cross stitch is either counted or pattern printed on material needs more concentration ,well for me it does the only embroidery I have done was years ago on transfers ironed on to material less brain power needed but I would say totally different apart from the fact you need needle and thread
Hi jen, cross stitch is exactly as it says. The whole picture is made up of cross stitch only, counted from a set pattern. It is fairly straightforward if you start off with something small. All you need is the ability to count and concentrate. Embroidery can consist of a multitude of stitches eg straight stitch, daisy stitch, satin stitch, back stitch to name but a few and can rerquire some degree of expertise. Again start with something small . Any needlework shop will have little starter packs with instructions and diagrams of the stitches to get you going. cheers skylight
