Damp smell

My rented flat is very small and along one wall is the exterior window (which is actually a sliding glass door). I recently came back from 2 weeks away and the smell of damp from that side of the room is incredible, so much so it has got into my chest of drawers and my clothes now smell (due to the logistics of the room I have nowhere else to put my drawers).
Does anyone know a cheap easy way to get rid of the smell. It is over-powering. I have tried air fresheners, leaving the window open but nothing has worked. Help!!!

We were getting a fine covering of mouldy/mildewy stuff in our shoe cupboard from condensation somewhere. From Homebase I bought a little lavender smelling thing for damp and put it in the drawer and now smells nice and no mildew.

Sorry can't remember what it's called but it's stocked near the crystals for removing condensation and such like.

I would also get your landlord to send a proffessional round as it sounds like your flat needs help...
