Used to be a very nice area several years ago, predominantly Jewish. Station Road used to be the main shopping center with some classy shops.
Unfortunately the area has deteriorated, shops are a bit "tacky" graffiti appearing on walls and a generally untidy appearance to what it was although it does have an excellent Greek restaurant in Station Road, I believe its called the Isgara (or similar)
Away from the center (east towards Mill Hill) there are still some nice properties but VERY expensive. The same a mile north to Stanmore. Very nice shops and restaurants but again VERY pricey.
A mile south is Burnt Oak. Not a very nice place at all. A lot of drunkenness , and petty crime.
West is Stonegrove, quite a tidy area, mainly Asians who do look after their property. Not a shopping area. Just a small parade of shops by the station.
There is a bus depot and underground station in Station Road. Tube into central London in about 25 minutes.
The Edgware Road is one of the main roads into central London and is always quite congested which has a gridlock effect on other roads in the area, many of which are used as rat runs.
There is a large hospital on the outskirts of Edgware if you are unfortunate enough to need one. It had a poor reputation until recently, it has since been modernised
I am trying to give you an honest answer and hope I havn't put you off. Depends on where you are coming from and what you want. There are many worse places in London!!
Whatever you decide good luck.
