I have two 13 year old cats (sisters). They do go out but always wait until they come inside to use the litter tray! Recently, they (or just one of them) have started to wee on the outside of the tray instead of inside. They have had the same litter box for several years (covered) and no recent changes in routine etc.
I'm starting to feel desperate! Any help!
Thanks.

cats can be a bit 'faddy'. i would suggest washing out the litter tray and soaking in a bicarbonate of soda / water solution (its a good deodoriser) and then refilling the litter and making a concerted effort to stay on top of changing the litter. my cat didnt used to be that fussy, but all of a sudden started going all round the house if the litter was not immaculately clean. im changing his litter much much more often now and the problem has stopped.

Thanks, but I've tried all that - Washing the tray weekly and cleaning it everytime it's soiled and complete change every day, ut still find a wet patch outside.
Sorry to answer your good advice with "I'm doing that', but I am!
have you tried having 2 trays so they dont have to use the same 1 also is the puddle very close to the tray as we used to have a cat that always manged to pee over the edge of the tray if so it could be a bit of stiffness and she is not sitting down far enough
They should have gone to SpecSavers

Very good! '-oo-'
The litter tray is one where it has a hood cvering the whole deep tray, with just an opening at the front. They seem to go in and then turn around, perching on the front edge of the tray, so I don't think it can be an accident. I don't have any problems with them both using the same tray to do poos(!) and they've been happily sharing their toilet for 13 years!
Probably no answers!

I hope they don't see this - they'll be so embarassed that I'm sharing their inner most personal secrets on line!!!

Perhaps it's all my fault - their eccentric owner is making them paranoid!
newspaper all round tray if someone is going to insist on going on the floor. perhaps one of them is going a bit senile someone told me once that they wont use the tray if it hurts to pee dont know if that is right or not
