I have a patio door in my house which no longer opens. I telephoned the company which (according to the people I bought my house from) installed the patio door, but they said they have no record of installing patio doors at this address, no record of my vendor's surname, and refused to send anyone to look at the door (even at my expense - I was fully expecting to pay for them to attend) unless I can provide a contract/job number or similar to prove they did the job, and the vendor say they do not have it (they did not give it to us when we bought the house). I have also had a locksmith come round to look at the door, and after several weeks in which he was telling me that they were waiting for an answer from a manufacturer in Germany, in the end they told me they cannot get hold of a lock that fits this door as the door is too old, and I have to get a brand new door - expensive, and the door itself seems fine apart from the small detail that it is now permanently closed. Has anybody got any suggestions? I find it particularly irritating that this company refuse to attend, even at a call out charge, unless I can prove they installed the door. After all, people buy and sell houses all the time and vendors are not obliged to supply any documentation as things stand !
I take it this is a double glazed door? It makes it more tricky. With older style doors one can drill out the lock and fit a new one, but double glazed doors tend to have reinforcing bolts top and bottom. You can try to contact a few more companies, as not all are as unhelpful as this lot seem to be.....Beyond that it may be new door time.
