any suggestions please- I've got solid concrete ceilings and I hate the central light fittings. The ceilings are just over minimum height, so I can't put up false ones. Also I've a narrow stairway approx 90cms wide, any ideas?

how about wall lights or sptlights fitted in the stairs to illuminate when dark could look quite contemporary too.
What about those low-voltage lights which run off parallel sets of uninsulated wires, stretched between the walls? You can suspend the lights wherever you like.

New Forester,my stairs are very low, as well as narrow,so there's not enough headroom.
