How soon can you paint on new plaster? Someone suggested 2 weeks-this seems an awfully long time to wait. Thankyou in advance x

i was always led to believe a few weeks but apparently this is a myth, anyone who watches DIY sos will know different.
A few weeks ago they were saying that they get loads of letters about painting on plaster to early i cant remember what there exact reply was but they seem to paint on plaster within 48 hours.

Thanks Chas.........funnily enough I was thinking "they paint straight away on that Nick Knowles programme" !
Our plasterer told us we had to wait until it changed colour to pale pinky beige .. that was longer than 2 days.
We have recently had rooms plasterboarded and then skimmed with a plaster and it was dry within 2 days.

We were told to do a 4 part paint to 1 part water mix for the first coat of paint before putting on the actual colour.
