Make a lot of soup and freeze it.
''Butternut squash will store well for several months in a cool, dark, dry place, as long as they are blemish-free and have an inch of their stalk still attached (this reduces the likelihood of rotting). Don't store in the fridge as moisture can also promote rot.''
Being a winter squash, Butternut can be stored in a cool dark place for up to three months. Don't wash it, just wipe clean of any excess garden dirt, place in a burlpa or cheesecloth sack (for ventilation).

Additionally, for longer storage, cut the squash in quaters, remove seeds and boil in water until soft. Remove the pulp from the skin and freeze... god for about a year. Can also be canned in a pressure canner...
That's a burlap sack ... and "cut in quarters ... something obvilously wrong with my key board this morning... Thanks to snags for the paralells views...
Clanad, is it also 'god for about a year'?
