Bath Sealer

Does anybody know how to remove sealent from along the side of the bath?  The stuff my partner put on looks messy and we want to try again - however, the stuff used seems to have been made with superglue!  We've tried one type of sealent remover.  Any suggestions?

in the past I have used a Stanley knife to get under it and then it just pulls off. You can then clean up and start again. a good tip is to dip your finger in washing up liquid and run your finger along smoothing it out as you go and don't use too much sealant, it will spread. . It also helps to fill the bath with water first as that weighs down the bath, and you get a good seal .

with plastic baths, its a good tip to fill them with hot water as this makes them sag more than cold (especially the less expensive ones) and can avoid a gap forming in the seal when people take hot baths

It is now possible to buy sealant remover - made by Unibond, from DIY Stores.

I've always found that a stanley knife and a narrow blade paint/wallpaper scraper are the best tools to get it off. I wouldn't recommend sealant remover as it is quite expensive and isn't that effective. Remember that you don't have to remove every last scrap of the old stuff. As long as you have most of it off little bits and pieces won't do any harm. The advice about filling the bath is spot on as is the tip about the washing up liquid although it's much easier to just lick your finger or dip it in the bath water.

It is hard work to get off but a bit of perseverance and not worrying about getting every last bit off should see you right.
