Yesterday I saw a fox which was limping as it passed through my garden. Then this morning at about 7.30am I looked out of the bedroom window and saw the very same fox lying prostrate on my lawn and alongside the garden pond. Consequently, I immediately telephoned the RSPCA 24hr helpline and,as the animal was still alive, arrangements were made for 'an officer' to call upon me as soon as possible. In the meanwhile I was requested to monitor the poor creature and report back if it left my garden.

At about 1.30pm. today, I witnessed the beautifully coated creature was breathing very heavily and, after a number of bodily tremors, soon afterwards died..Consequently, I again telephoned the RSPCA and was informed that, as the fox was dead, I should 'double bin it' in plastic bags and place out for collection as normal domestic refuse. I was aghast at such advice and immediately contacted my local Authority (Swansea City Council) and the young lady to whom I spoke was, in my opinion, as appalled as I was at the advice which had been given by the RSPCA.

Consequently, my local Authority's representative arranged for the dead fox to be collected (which it was within two hours) and she in formed me that the service would be free of any charge.

I'm even more shocked that the RSPCA said they'd come out to it whilst the poor thing was still alive!

On each occasion that i've rang them (ranging from about dogs down to pigeons) I've more or less been told it was nowt to do with them and no, they wouldn't do anything about it.
6 hours to get to your house ? aww poor fox
One of the "kind" officers went out to see a horse which was clearly starving and then went back a week later, only to find it had fallen down a bank trying to reach for something to eat and drowned in the stream. How could you leave any animal suffering like that, knowing it was dying of hunger?
Once again Lardy (hello by the way) I'm amazed they managed to leave their desks or comfy work vans to even go look at it.
Hi Boo - I'm afraid I don't have any time for them after hearing/seeing things at work that they can't be @rsed to check out.
Infact the only time I remember them actively fighting for something, was when they were trying to get their sweaty mitts on that farm.

Apologies Ron from deviating from your thread slightly, but as you can probably gather I think the RSPCA are about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

I am pleased that, you folk who have so far replied, are on my side in matters.

Although I am surprised B00 that you depict yourself as a person who smokes. There's a brass mounted sign in my lounge which states "No Smoking".......Must admit, I ignore it and Viv doesn't object to my puffing( bearing in mind my advanced years.)

Ron
Boo, I wouldn't rate the RSPCA that useful.
We are lucky in that we have a local vet who specialises in wildlife, he's always in the paper saving seagulls and seals etc. I bet he would have come out to the fox, even if only to put it out of its misery humanely.
Yeah you're probably right there ttfn!

Ron yes, for my sins, im a smoker, though in my defense, its my only vice- stop laughing!
Question Author
B00.....Viv's looking over my shoulder......so I must be careful ....I don't believe that smoking is your only vice....if you are like Viv and me, I am going to have a guess that you are not agin a little drop of wine. We love the red plonk. I'll drink it every day but Viv avoids the beverage during weekdays( Mon/Fri) as an attempt to loose weight. Cigarettes and wine are my answers to keeping healthy and retaining a reasonable shape (figuratively speaking of course.)

I am a foxy person!!

Ron
Heh Viv & Ron, you both make me smile xxx

As it happens, no i'm not a wine drinker, im not really much of a drinker at all to be honest. Though when I do it's usually Bailey's, brandy or Jack Daniels- though not all at once!
Just a nice bottle of milk does me.

B00....I know we are now off the original subject.....but it's still good serious stuff about which we are now conversing!!

Have you thought about giving-up smoking.? In actual fact, it's quite easy. I should know because....like the author Mark Twain said....."I've done it dozens of times." !!!!
Poor fox, it's upsetting when no one will help...and it's a thumbs down for the rspca from here too. They didn't even bother to come out to a swan(!) that was wandering around in a confused state in the road outside the place where my sister worked. It was ushered to safety & shut in the yard until someone took it to a safe place where there were other swans.

Hi Robinia... Join the club...( B00;ladybird49;hardhelmet;ttfn;boxtops; and maybe even WILLWONKER) who have all gone along my lines as regards the RSPCA.

Ron
I just wanted to point out one teensy thing viv - my name's lardhelmet, not hardhelmet - but thanks for the mention in your post.
Question Author
Sorry lardhelmet....My fault, not Viv's....although I am prepared to blame her for looking over my shoulder and failing to always observe my typing errors....( I rely on her for spelling, grammar and printing errors.!!!!!!!)

Ron
No worries. My brain works faster than my fingers when I'm typing too! Happens to all of us...
I don't rate the RSPCA much either. I once reported a man who boasted that he killed budgies he didn't want (he was a breeder) by sellotaping their wings against their bodies and slamming them against a brick wall.

I was told by the RSPCA that they MIGHT be interested if I could get videotaped evidence. Disgusting.
