Propogate bleeding heart bush

Is it poss to grow another bleeding heart from a largeish stem that broke off? It broke off at the very base of the stem/branch! The main bush is fairly small as it was only planted about two month ago

Highley unlikely... Bleeding Hearts (Dicentra spectabilis) respond well to dividing the root ball in early spring. Propagation from cuttings usually only works with cuttings from the root stems, not broken branches.

However, I wouldn't dissuade you from adventure... try cutting the broken end with sharp shears on an angle... place the cutting in a tray long enough to hold it and to be covered with about an inch of sil. Water well but so much as to have it in standing water. Place it in a sunny area and keep the soil slightly moist.

After about 10 days to 2 weeks, throw the whole thing out and cut some root stems next spring before it comes out of dormancy...
