I`ve got three solar lights in the garden and only one works now. One died a death a while ago and now the other one`s gone. I presume the batteries wear out eventually after constantly recharging themselves. Is it possible to buy new rechargeable solar batteries? I`ve only ever seen ones that recharge by being plugged into the mains. Seems a shame to just throw out the lamps.
I used to have solar lights and found that the rain water eventually got in and shorted them out. Try putting a plastic bag over the remaining one and see how long it lasts.
Thanks for your answers. I`ll buy the batteries and give it a go. Was going to throw out the lamps too!
The rain might have shorted my Mum`s lamp as one of hers packed up quite quickly
Prudie is absolutely correct .. The self-powered sets are absolutely crap.
The lighting wird with a separate solar recharge panel are better, but a loft more expensive.
Before spending any dosh, check that the battery terminals and their contacts are clean. Moisture can get inside these lights as Wak says, and this can cause corrosion, resulting in a poor battery connection. Cleaning might be the answer to this common problem and get the lights to work again.
You can get solar lights so cheap now. that I don't think it is worth replacing the batteries.
We have a pound shop which sells them for obviously £1 and they work great.
