New bed-base and mattress

Seems odd to me, but there seems to be a groove lenghtwise in a new mattress. I would say it is about an inch or two deep. The groove appeared a few months after I bought it last year, from Dreams.

It is a single bed and as soon as I notice the groove I called customer support, who (eventually) sent out a 'mattress technician' who didn't seem too concerned and would only say that he would report back to the company (different name to whom he worked for) and they would decide if it was okay and contact me withing a couple of weeks.

Needless to say, after two weeks I had to chase them and eventually found someone 'who said he had seen the report, and there was nothing wrong with the matteress'

Now I know I'm a real cynical person, but I did not get a very warm feeling about any of the actions or findings of these people.

Is there any independent mattress technicians/inspectors out there who can tell me what determines an "unsatisfactory mattress?"

Sure would be glad to hear from you. None of the other beds I have owned, have developed this groove.

The mattress is deffinately faulty. And a truly independent inspector could have told you that over the phone.

They sent 'their mattress technician' out and he wrote a report. The decision was, it was within industry guidelines.

I must admit, I want to buy another, but who do you trust. I have bought many beds from Dreams over many years, but his is the first time I have had any trouble.

I am now of the opinion, 'You can't trust any of the %$!&*+#@'

Well I would argue that no groove in a mattress is supposed to be there, so it is not within industry standards. Also if the groove apeared (and you reported it) within six months, then you would be entitled to a refund, as it would be deemed to be faulty when manufactured.

You have to remember that the so called independent technician works for a company who earn a lot of money from Dreams. So just how independent do you think they would be??

As for Dreams (and any of the other big retailers), avoid them. With most of them you will pay at least double what you need to, as they have fake price promises, and fake sales. Also avoid most of the big manufacturers if you want a good mattress at a good price. Instead shop on line, but make sure the retailer gives a proper satisfaction guarantee, that allows you to unpack and sleep on the mattress.
