just had a bloke knocking on my front door, he was trying to flog cavity wall insulation, no thank you says I, it do es not cost says him, no thanks says I, do you want to read my leaflet says him, no says me what part of no do you not understand, door closes.
How do you get rid of these people?
They always start off with 'don't worry I'm not trying to sell double glazing or anything like that... ' and then start to try and sell me something. Some are most put out when I politely end the conversation.
The rented house thing doesn't work, they just ask for the landlord's phone number and address. I have had loft insulation put in for free (government scheme) but our house doesn't have cavity walls (too old) so we couldn't have that.
I hate the ones that say they're not here to sell anything because they quite clearly are in one way or another. A short sharp 'no thank you' and closing the door in their face works for me.
If you have trouble getting rid of salesmen at the door, tell them you have to go as you have left the baby in the bath. That usually gets rid of them!
I've had the lot done free....loft, cavity wall and damp treatment....made a big difference to my house. Just make sure it's not some cowboy cashing in on the real thing :-)
A suited chap knocked at the door the other day. I couldn't understand a word he said. So I stopped him and told him that. I asked him if he was Scottish. He said no, he was from Newcastle.
Just say ' Thanks, but we've already had it done'. Always works for me. whether it's double glazing, conservatory, whatever. They can't argue with that.
Cold calling should be banned. It doesn't matter whether or not you are rude to them. They have already interrupted you even if you are just watching the telly. They are a pain...
we've had the offer of the loft insulation - the guy says it's all free etc. I asked him if he would be clearing the loft as that is the job that needs to be done in order for them to fit it. He said errrmmm no, so I said good bye :)........and why do they always arrive when you are either dishing up or eating dinner?
