Heir Finders...usa Style

My brother was contacted by a company several months ago. Initially he ignored them, but then after contacting me,we decided to look into the matter, and give the company the go-ahead.
The fee is high, but there is no way either of us can investigate on our own. It is in regards to a relative on our fathers side...and we know very little about them. How long does something like this take? Will they already have a fair amount of information as to what sort of inheritance is involved?
We both feel that whatever the amount is,it's something we'd not have or even know about otherwise. So...a bonus.

The fee is standard...or seems to be...for this type of company. They search records, have specialists in genealogy. When they contacted my brother they already had information on both myself here in the UK,and my dads side of the family, particularly his brothers. There is no fee if there is no inheritance. I think they contact relatives if there is a fairly strong possibility that there will be a result.
