Have lost an earring down the bath plug hole - no water is involved, I simply dropped it when I took it out and for the first time since Nelson lost his eye the trap cover was off.
If I lift the drain cover outside and put a cloth over then outlet pipe then gently run the bath tap do you think I stand a chance of recovering it?
One more question - the lavatory outlet also goes into the same system and if the water is mixed before it reaches the main drain I'll buy another pair of earrings!
Have thought of trying to dangle a magnet down but don't think that will work.
Anyone any ideas please. thank you

Take the side off the bath, you should find you have a u bend type pipe just under the plug hole. Hopefully your ear ring is caught there

Good luck

thanks IggyB but side of bath is tiled and can't get the side off - heavens knows what will happen if there's a major plumbing problem though! Very old cottage with dubious plumbing!
On a number of occasions I have recovered earings from the u-bend .. I have even retreived a pair of gold teeth.
If the earing is worth retiling the side of the bath for, then that is what will need to happen.
If it is gold them a magnet wont work .. you could always try a bit of blue tack stuck on the end of a pencil. Just prod it down the plug hole and prod around.

alavahaf will try your suggestion thank you
or a coat hanger unravelled and with the blu-tack.....
Question Author
Thanks DT - where's the blu tack when you need it? will have to wait until tomorrow as I don't do chewing gum either.
No baths for you lot tomorrow - not from that bath anyway! Good luck......
An opportunity and incentive to deal with the "unremovable" bath panel at the same time.

Thanks DT and I hear what you're saying OG but I suspect the bath will remain in it's present state for a while longer as the property is for sale.
