Can anyone recognise this object ? You can judge its size by the Tesco carrier bag, I have not got the object just the photo at present.

Looks like the curly bit has something to do with heat dissipation. Something to do with welding?
Interesting Donny. Looks like a hefty spring and a wind handle to tension it. Does the top curled rod swing free or is it fixed? If it is free perhaps it flings something.

I am told that nothing moves but the spring being there almost certainly points to movement.
It's a thingamabob isn't it, you use the oojamaflip to get it to wotsit.

looks maybe like the handle bit at the left turns in order to retract the spring ?
