Washing Machine Locked

At the end of a perfectly normal wash cycle, the door of my washing machine won't open. I've tried all the obvious things: unplugged it/ plugged it back in several times, run another programme, held the on/off button down, all to no avail.

Anyone please have any idea how I can release the door?

Ours has a release tab near the base- a strip of plastic we can pull to release the door if it's locked

What make and model is it? Every washing machine I have owned has a hidden door release catch somewhere.

It's an Indesit W1A 111.
Never had any problem with it, and there's nothing in the manual I got with it under 'Troubleshooting' that refers to the door staying locked. So frustrating!

Bingo! Thanks so much - hit the door by the lock hard with the heel of my hand, and it released it. Will also remember the credit card and fishing line methods if it happens again.

If there is a next time you could also try simply pushing hard on the door (i.e. closing it really firmly) while at the same time pulling the opening lever - once the lever operates correctly stop pressing.
