Was given a recipe for red onion chutney which looked quite simple (I'm no cook). Chopped onions and red chilies - took ages. Softened off in olive oil. Added brown sugar, grated garlic and finished off reducing with balsamic vinegar. After all that palaver ended up with half a jar of chutney. Did taste lovely but definitely not worth all the trouble. Next time the notion takes me I will go to Asda!

I did a similar thing with a glut of courgettes, ended up with three jars of relish, which wasn't very nice and went in the bin.
