“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

An interesting article, thank you. But I'm afraid the mind-boggling time/distance scales are a bit beyond my comprehension.  Makes me feel a bit small and insignificant in the grand scale of things.

I wonder why it doesn't get a mention in locust's bible 😀

Maybe it was an early album from the big fella canary!

Us lay folk won't know why it's an issue to find such things. I figure most such shapes come from something exploding and having lots of time to grow large.  Interesting though that the circular one is apparently more of a spiral. (A spinning, rapidly moving, slowly exploding mass ?)

My husband is listening to the radio.  He's just popped into my study to tell me that someone on there is saying that these rings may be 'older than the universe'.  Ooer!

And after all that, it's very old history we're seeing - difficult to comprehend. I wonder what it looks like (close up) today, not what it looked like millions of years ago.

Eventually every"older than the universe" claim, and there's been a few of them, gets explained.

Question Author

Maybe it's not there, Canary.

It would be extremely improbable if this and other strange (to us) phenomena occurring in the universe did not have cause.

In the search for that cause, 'Occam's Razor' kicks in, (that says that if you have two competing ideas to explain the same phenomenon, you should prefer the simpler one).

We can postulate a simple explanation, it was caused by a very simple cause;  God, one entity, with one essential property - omnipotence.  🙂

Certainly feasible I suppose - the stuff of nightmares 😀

My response was to naomi, not the bible-thumper

With each new scientific discovery, believers in a creator of the universe might begin to contemplate what other wonders have been hidden from us for so long . . . and why the secrecy?

Question Author

Khandro, be serious.  :o)

 mibn2cweus //and why the secrecy//

No secrecy, just blindness.

Even this sentence is too much attention to Khandro's nonsense.

Thanks for posting, Naomi :)

> No secrecy, just blindness.

As in the watchmaker ...

Khandro and Occam's Razor.

How can postulating a vast power not of the universe, but which is capable of creating the Universe, be considered as simplifying things? You are more than doubling the amount of stuff to be explained.

you could still ask the same question of the Big Bang, Atheist. People asking what happened on the day before creation used to be told there was no such thing, time and space were created simultaneously

They'd still get the same answer if they asked what happened the day before the Big Bang. Today, at least; tomorrow, who knows what science may turn up?

Atheist; It isn't, "simplifying things" it's a simple elegant explanation. Everything started -the prime mover- by an omnipotent, unknowable, God.

I have an explanation of which you can't disprove, and you have non.

I say the universe was created by Mickey Mouse. You can't disprove that Khandro, so by your reasoning it must be true.
