Heater Trouble

any have any ideas of how to get the pressure back up inside a central heating system. ours has packed in today and its bloody freezing! its a Ariston heater for those who know their heating system. ive tried reseting it and turning it off and on but the gauge says theres no pressure. is there anything i can do get it back up without calling out the experts as they prob wouldnt be here for ages and its cold!

You may have an air lock in the system Bleeding it may restore the water pressure sufficient for the boiler to ignite. You may need to consult the manual (assuming you have one) for exactly how to vent the system.

You can't vent the system or clear air locks without pressure in it! You have a sealed system under water pressure, this pressure needs to be restored now and then just as you do the air in your car tyres.

If the boiler is wall mounted then the filling loop will be underneath or nearby. This is a flexible braided pipe with one tap at one end and possibly another at the other end. The pipe needs to be connected and the tap or taps need to be turned on to fill the system with water up to a pressure of 1 bar. Turn both off when you have done this and the boiler and system should work normally.

You should not need to bleed the radiators but if you have done this without pressure in the system and allowed air in, or they are cold at the top, then replenish the pressure as you bleed each radiator.

Cheers helps out a lot. actually im a student and my landlord came round to day as i was beggining to attempt what you suggested. boy he was angry, he didnt want me sorting it out, he wanted me to call him so he could do it himself?! apparently tenants before had tried to do it themselves and caused a flood and hundreds of pounds worth of damage! Cheers anyway!
