flat battery

My car battery is as flat as a very flat thing this morning and so I am having to buy some jump leads and use a friends car. Can someone explain which clamp goes on which bit of the battery?

I dont think it really matters as long as the red goes to the same termial on both batteries. Its normally red goes on the positive terminal and black on the negative. On most cars the actual leads on the battery will be colour coded in this way also so use that as a quide. Red to Red and black to black

Forgot to say. You need to put the clamp on the termianls which are the bits where the wires are connected to the battery usually by a nut and bolt.

Thanks very much Gilf.. I'm usually ok with car stuff (even for a girl) but this is new to me so your advice is much appreciated. With a bit of luck my day's holiday may not be wasted yet.

don't always trust the colours, my corsa negative is brown and the positve is black, look for the + & - on the battery.

Yeah good point John91 look for the + and - minus signs for confirmation.

And make sure that the two vehicles aren't actually touching each other when you try to jump start yours. Keith
