digital tv vonnection help

I am a wrinkly and thinking of treating myself to a new digital telly. My present set-up consists of a Terrestial TV, Freeview box and DVD/VCR. From what I have been able to gather, is that with Digital TV you can only record the programme you are watching. My question is, if I get the new TV would I still be able to connect my Freeview box as well and tape a seperate programme via that. I suppose what I am trying to say is, can I watch the new telly but use my old set-up for recording as I am doing now. I know you can buy a digital DVD player that will do this but that means further expense. Thanks for any help in advance will be appreciated.

Yes you can.

I have a digital tv, and have the choice whether to watch digital or analogue.

So you can watch an analogue station on your tv and record a digital station via your freeview box.

I have had a thought - if you are a good haggler, when you buy your tv try and get a digital dvd recorder, or even better a pvr thrown in with the package.

it's all down to how many scarts you have but basically
freeview to recorder to tv

you may or may not be able to use the aerial connection (some cheaper digiboxes won't)

you watch the telly's built in digi/analog - you record from freeview box - watch recorder (your recorder needs 2 scarts)
