Can anyone tell me if every airport has an xray machine to check suitcases for duty free excess.

Partner thinks that every airport has one but i disagree. if they were to xray suitcases as standard then you would probably catch more customs evaders...

I don't know whether it's X-ray or Ultrasound, but having some sort of device for looking inside suitcases is pretty standard.

Thanks for that .... but do you reckon they have this type of equipment at all airports?????   and why aint more people stopped with excess duty free....
I was under the impression that they were far more worried about weapons, bombs, drugs and perhaps gold or precious gems than a few extra fags/bottles.
yeah they x ray all baggage going onto all planes at all airports.  I just don't think they're so bothered about people going over customs limits and duty free excesses, more worried about guns and bombs and stuff.  tHink it is up to customs to stop you on your way back into the country if they think you are carrying illegal booze or fags.
Customs target based on profiles and information, they do not worry about the odd bottle extra.  Some ariports with international flights do not have a 24 Customs presence anymore.

Well, there's two things here. Firstly airports x-ray luggage for security reasons on departure. There's no duty-free limits when you leave the country. They don't routinely x-ray luggage of incoming flights.

But there are x-ray machine in the customs lines, but they're used to see if luggage has a hidden compartment, not for duty-free fags which can be found by opening the case.

If they routinely x-ray incoming bags then that'd add yet more delay for the poor suffereing passengers (speaking as someone just recovering from arriving from the long unnecessary immigration queues at Amsterdam to exit their country. \EU huh!

Someones bound to say that incoming luggage is x-rayed in the USA, but thats because many US airports are very badly designed and incoming passengers and their luggage have to enter the secure part of the airporst before they can exit, on airports where you don't have to pass through the secure area bags are not x-rayed.

You are upto no good !!!!!
