You just need a 24v mains transformer... this would do it, you'd just have to cut the existing plug off and connect it to the wires on the thing you've got.

well yes jayne, but we all make mistakes!.................don't beat yourself up about it, maybe you can hide the transformer in a cupboard, and have a discreet hole drilled in your worktop to feed the wire!.......................may work?................

Thanks, Chuck. We have one of those Maplins places. I might venture into there.

Welshy ... "drill a hole in my work top" ?? ... Helloooooo !!!!!!

I plugged in a neat small kettle, 2 prong and the kitchen nearly caught fire. I threw it out just in time.

Be careful of messing with electric appliances - you can't have Bobjugs resusitate you with dubious tools attached - lol

Thanks, guys.

I'll see if I can find one of those small sounding transformers.

I'm still a bit shaky from the "drill a hole in my granite worktop" suggestion !!!
Oh, it a granite worktop...

In that case try dynamite instead of a drill.
jane: ///one of those pump things///

Are there any pipes? Sounds like a fountain pump and light. Some of them can be quite powerful. You do need to determine the power rating of the thing to get the right power supply.

There are several pipes, beso.

Coming out of the bottom of the pumpy thing, there's a thick, spongy, sort of pipe. Coming out of this, there are 3 smaller pipes ...

There's 1 clear one (which I presumably connect to my cooler machine).

And there are 2 black ones, about half a centimetre in diameter. Not sure about those.

Then, separately, there's this 2 core electric wire ... the one with the "24v SELV" tag.

I hope it lights up. That would be jolly.
Hi JJ this is all very puzzling could you post a picture so that we can all see it ( preferably in colour & if it's what askyourgran suggests could we see it in operation please)
it will be one of these, ron.

Jayne..

The two wires are for (as you figured) lighting it up, the single clear pipe will be (as you also figured) for connecting to your cooler for the beer.

The other two pipes will be for running cold pumped water from the cooler (in a pub) up into the tap and then a return back to the cooler, this firstly keeps the beer cool right up to the end point of the tap and can also (in the case of some like the fosters one above) create condensation on the outside of the casing for aesthetic purposes . You can leave these two pies disconnected with no real problems (other than the first 1/4 pint you draw will have warmed up in the tap if it's been left a while)
Leave the pies disconnected?!?!?!

Where did my other P go!!! I obviously meant leave the pipes disconnected.
Chuck I shan't tell you again, learn to p in the right place
Nip down to the wine bar JJ, and see how they do it.

You may have to buy a few drinks, to give yourself time to chat to the landlord about it.
I don't it has been mentioned but that 24v is DC not
I don't think it has been mentioned but that 24v is DC not AC therefore a simple transfomer is no good. You need one with a 24 volt DC output. I'm surprised it didn't come with one or has one built in.
The one I linked to is a DC transformer.

though if they are just plan filament lights in the tap (they used to be when I've worked in pubs) it's doesn't really matter if it's AC or DC.

it wouldn't have come with one because pubs an bars tend to use one fairly large transformer to run all the lights in all the pump heads.
