hi all,can anyone help me with this query,my car was hit by another car while parked outside my home,the driver of this car drove away,i reported the incident to the police and was given an incident number,the driver of the vehicle left his drivers side wing mirror in the road and i kept hold of it,when i spoke to the police i told them that this was in my possession,a few hours later the police came to my home for the said item and told me that the car that it was off had been involved in four more incidents that night.i have claimed on my insurance and i have had a settlement figure,my no claims was not protected and i am wondering will i have to start from scratch again seeing that this incident was not my fault.thank you in advance

Unfortunately, if your insurance company can't recover the costs from the third party, then you will indeed lose your NCB - this is normally only reinstated after a successful recovery.
Not from scratch but you will lose some of your NCB, even if protected it will cost more. Why did you claim off your own insurance, was the other driver uninsured? One thing I have learnt is that if you claim off your own insurance, they will get it back off you with the premiums. It's often cheaper in the lomg run to get it fixed yourself. Obviously if it's a lot of damage then you have to claim.
