Car insurance renewal.

Is it usual to have an arrangement fee on your car insurance renewal?

I've never noticed it before. They want £50!

OK Sunny sorry i misunderstood at first i agree with you my Broker puts his charges seperate also,By the bye it does not always pay to take the cheapest quote,it pays to check what sort of cover you are getting.

... and you will pay exactly the same (if not more) than you would through a broker, Nibble.


My Bike insurance for instance :

Direct quote from Highway (the insurer) - £172 - 'non negotiable' when I asked

Headline Price from Swinton (brokers) - £168 - still with Highway

Actual Price from Swinton after haggling - £118 - still with Highway

Swinton will be getting a huge 'volume discount' and commission from Highway (for generating business and saving Highway admin work) - they are then passing on around two thirds of that to me, to induce me to stay with them.

I agree Grumpy - always read the small print - cheapest is by no means always the best.

Before you renew ummmm phone them anyway and ask for a better price. Tell them you have a better quote (say £218 as a random realistic amount) and they'll knock something off.

I will phone them, I have to because we pay annually.

I did a search on comparison sites and it doesn't look like we will get it much cheaper.

Try quidco and get cash back as well . They have a comparison site. I used them and got £26 back and cheaper insurance

Administration fees are more common these days - best to check the small print before you buy.

Better still, talk to an insurance broker, instead of trusting computer-generated meerkats or opera singers. It's not all about price...
