Can I purchase a life insurance policy for my husband without his consent? - If he died suddenly we would be plunged into debt - I don't work other than do the books of his business and rely on his income. I need a policy that would give me at least one year of his average income plus paying off mortgage and funeral costs - he just won't get a policy - don't ask me why its very selfish but apparently , <he's not going to die> ( I know...)

I don't think there's any legal reason why not...but an insurance company might not be prepared to do it...why don't you ask.
You have an insurable interest in his life, so I don't see why not.

I can see a snag in that he might not be willing to cooperate with any medical issues the insurance company may raise.
Good point, he would need to give permission for a report to go to his doctor for underwriting, if necessary.
Assuming you can will you tell husband that you have done this?
I would have thought that your mortgage lenders would have required an insurance policy to cover the outstanding debt in case either of you died before repayment!
yes you can legally but as they say above the Insurance company will probably want a medical, and that's going to be difficult to do without him knowing! Why don't you get him to do it by saying you'll pay the premiums?
Mortgage companies don't require life insurance.
who's going to pay the premiums, as you don't work?

Hi - I don't <work> but am a partner in the business so have a half share in all the profits ( and losses) so have the same income as him. No - I would tell him once it was done -if its possible - but I think with his age (52) he would probably need a medical as he smokes -I've done a few on line quotes pretending to be him to see how much it would cost -but don't want to insure him and then , heaven forbid, anything should happen to him, be told the insurance was'nt valid . think I will just pop down to local insurance brokers and see what they say - thanks for the replies though! x
