I got a student loan in 2000 when tuition fees were capped at about £1000. The total loan available was in the region of £3500-£4000. 75% of it was automatic and 25% of it was means tested, on a sliding scale. If household income was over about £40000 you had to pay the full tuition fee and only got 75% of the loan amount. So I got about £2750 a year loan plus I had to pay the £1000 tuition fees upfront. Not sure if there is a website about the historical loan arrangements, this is just my experience from memory.
