Do they still have these in schools?

It's a good way to promote better achievement in class, isn't it?

Any child who does particularly badly has to sit in the corner for a while, wearing a pointy hat with a "D" on it.

I'm all for winners and losers. I don't understand why a winner can't be a winner. I just don't think losers should be humiliated.

Yeah, we're a rotten bunch. I use mine all the time. I also have a three legged stool that I make them sit on.

I'd just given myself the Dunce's Cap in the Sports section, for forgetting that its England, not GB, who compete in the Commonwealth Games.
Tilly....you're too soft...three legged stool......mine has two.....☺
Ohhhh...and hi, JJ.....x
the pointed hat was supposed to channel energy into the brain.
Ah, but my third leg is a detachable ruler, with which I can deliver a well deserved thwack.

I agree with ummmm.

Winners should be congratulated, and allowed to celebrate. Otherwise, where's the motivation to win.

Those who don't win should learn to congratulate the winner graciously, and be congratulated themselves if they have done their best.

Mine has one leg and no seat!!
I love the idea of a Duncer cup. It truly has no respectability of the abilities ask an Golfer.
*any
That's exactly it, JJ.

Praise and congratulations motivates people.
Dunce comes from John Duns, a Scotsman whose writings were once ridiculed. Apparently the cap was shaped in a cone to help focus the mind. A dunce's cap first appears in Dickens' The Old Curiosity Shop.
