I Messed Up

i went to a ward and mentioned another patient to a patient. I did not mention names all i said was 'i just seen a young teenage person in a bad way' i said this in conversation when the other patient asked me if i had been busy, and how many wards i go to. I think i breached Information Governance, as a colleague went to this other patients ward today, and this patient mentioned what i had told her....my colleague then told me that i need to be careful, if management find out i could be suspended or even sacked. It was just something out of nothing and i feel sick to the stomach. I was just getting back on track, and this seems to have been a blow to my self esteem.....will i get into big trouble if this patient mentions this again to someone senior? i.e my manager.

I think other people are trying to mess with your head. As you only mentioned "a young person" you could ask what person they thought you were referring to. Then say no it was someone else. "In a bad way" can have many different meanings, so you can be vague.
You have many conversations throughout a day you cannot expect yourself to be perfect for 100% of the time. We all make mistakes so do not be hard on yourself.

I'd tell your manager, they will appreciate being in the know, and will probably think up a cover story to get you and themselves out of the poop! I stick up for my colleagues the majority of the time, so long as they tell me the truth, but re-coach where ness. It's so easy to make a mistake. We all do it! A little while ago, I told a customer where to go. I couldn't believe I said it, my normal finely-tuned customer service skills went out the window that day! I told my manager immediately exactly what I had said - he stuck up for me :D

Go tell your manager. Explain what you did. I suspect you will just get told what has already been said, and having learnt the hard way I doutb it's a mistake you will repeat.
Waiting to see what happens and sweating it out just sounds stressful to me.
