I have just been made redundant after working in the same job for 8 years. . The redundancy package was generous but can I still claim JSA with this money in my account? I've never claimed JSA before but feel that I'm entitled to it after having worked and paid my taxes.

jsa isn't means tested
it is assessed on your NI contributions I think.
I would imagine you can claim.
You'll be eligible for Contribution based JSA.

Details here

I think the first 6 months you would be able to claim JSA based on contributions but after the first 6 months it changes to JSA income based
Not quite true. I was denied contribution-based jsa in 1997 because I received a medical pension.
Worth putting in the claim all the same.
Also, even though both JSA payments are the same amount of money, when you are on JSA contributions I am sure you have to pay for prescriptions/dental treatment etc whereas on income based you get it free
I think I'd like the information straight from the horse's mouth!......

Yes you will get JSA for 26 weeks as long as you 'sign on' once every 2 weeks. You must also show that you are actually looking for work.
I think the "Job Seeker" part is lost on some people. The "dole" isn't just an entitlement
Yes, you can and should claim JSA. Apply for Job Seeker allowance and start your new job search, nobody knows how much time it will last. I'd recommend you to create profiles on professional platforms such as Linkedin and Jobularity. Linkedin is a paid service, Jobularity (http://jobularity.com) is free. The employers will find yor profile and will contact you to propose their offers.
