I have just got a new job in nhs. However I have asked my current employer to give me a reference but he has been off sick for last two weeks. I have references from my university and the online job I was doing but I cannot get a reference from my current job until my manager comes back . What else can I do. I am worried I may lose the nhs opportunity

you can talk to the nhs recruiter and let them know.
Also, it seemsincredible to me that noone else can give a reference.
Explain the situation to your prospective employer.He may accept your old references.
isnt there a deputy who could do the job of a sick manager?
Can you ask your HR people in his absence?
Explain the situation and get references off ex employers and character references.
