Let's see what the care home boss offers and we'll take it from there.  You have to convince them you can work better and not be under pressure

Abbey don't forget that more hours at the care home might mean shift work and weekends.

Abbey, the care home cut your hours right back because they felt you weren't up to the job. You said yesterday that you were going to tell them you'd learnt from your mistakes and were going to try harder... and could you have your hours back, please?  I don't think you can do any more than that. If the care home don't want to give you 30 hours, yes, you probably will need to find another job - but maybe you shouldn't just jump at any job that's going. Until now, the care home job is the only one you're enjoyed.

I've googled and emailed care homes about vacancies

Inn12 minutes? I'm impressed you should think about working in an office!

If you don't mind sharing with us where you live as in the district, not your address, it's possible someone on here knows how to look for that type of job not too far from where you live.

Anyway, see how you get on asking for more hours and let us know what they say.

Tried that can't do office work

I'm not going to try to give any job advice, but I do have a suggestion about how you respond to advice and queries, abbey. When you give lots of short replies like "Yeah " or "Possibly not sure where though" it's not easy to work out which point you're addressing. The thread becomes very bitty.

Maybe it would be better to wait for a few responses, reflect on them, then try to provide a fuller response covering the key points raised.

It's just a suggestion as it's your thread and your prerogative how to 'listen' and respond, but I think it might help everyone help you, and might help you think things through.

That's a start, Abbey - and care homes are usually crying out for staff. I'm sure you'd approach any new job with more determination, now that you know that's the work you'd rather do.

They do need more staff in my one

Thanks,Abbey. Yes, they may need more staff - but they'll be wanting staff who can do the work, do the 30 (or more) hours.

Abbey, Floko mentioned working on your own and I wonder whether you might be interested in going to go work in other people's homes - I know that in the area where I   live, people often advertise locally for a few hours' help in the house. That would help to supplement your hours.

On the other hand, you seem to be doing cleaning work at the Care Home - do they ever have vacancies for a Care Assistant working with the residents?

Have you explained your situation to them Abbey?

Have you told them you like working there but you really need to do more hours?

If you haven't, then try that and see how you get on.

Question Author

They haven't much luck with new cleaners one didn't turn up to her first shift or only lasted a day and one been on the sick for 3 months and handed in another sick note.

I just sent my CV to another care home

Well done Abbey. I wish you good luck and don't give up.

Barsel, Abbey started on 30 hours, but the home felt she couldn't cope (too much pressure) and reduced the hours to 8 or 9. Abbey then took on a 20 hour a week job with Home Bargains.

Abbey what do you do in the care home?

Question Author

Housekeeping

Is that making beds and cleaning rooms and bathrooms

"Do I quit if my boss agrees to up my hours "

You have already said you are tired working the current hours between the two jobs.

If you can increase the care home hours, the total will be higher.

The other option would be to ask to reduce the hours at HB but I can't see that going down too well with them after only a week.

Have you worked out what you'll say to the care home to convince them you can cope while working more jours?
