Should I Start Looking For A New Job?

Basically my hours have been cut in selco to 24 hours for 4 weeks as I am not grasping the products with it becoming summer it is getting busy and they can't have another cashier with me so if I don't grasp within 4 weeks won't be able to have me as a cashier. I am very upset as I enjoy it.

Well yes as they were there for longer and I took thier job

So you started at 37 hours per week, that was cut to 24 for a period and now you're only guaranteed 20? Is that the case?

I think you should work really hard for a few weeks, try to impress them and press for additional hours. If after a month you are not getting close to 30 hours pw you should start looking for another job. If you already know you're unlikely to get more than 20-24 hours then start looking now- either for a new full time job or for some part time work.

Yes my boss said he will give me as much as he can and said it head office put a ban on overtime so unless someone left it out of his hand.

well if they've cut your hours from 37 to 20 and they are offering little prospect of overtime for the foreseeable future, then it's unlikely they rate you as someone they want to retain. I'd start looking elsewhere now- and focus on jobs where you know something about the product (beauty, clothes, bars)

I don't know what happening in the futre but I'm picking up the products and my boss didn't mention that yesterday and had overtime other day.

Hi abbey- just a suggestion: I think your posts would be a lot easier to read if you include the word is

e.g. it is out of his hand; and said it is head office; I don't know what is happening.

Even with your overtime, how many hours will you have worked this week? Are you able to pay bills and any debts and save based on that level of income?

So I don't if things will get better or not. If I have a meeting again with him do I mention he was going to do me a 37 hours contract?

I'm not sure in next coming weeks what I will be able to afford

There's a girl on my team who has had her probation extended because of her timekeeping and she been there since last October.

You are doing well, you are learning the products, have good time keeping.  Tell him you love the job and believe you have settled in well but stress that you need more hours.  If you are offered overtime, take it. Show willing.   If you continue to do well and are reliable then they may decide to sack the girl with poor time-keeping and give you her hours.

I did by staying on the other day. Who knows if they will sack or keep extending her probation. Only 26th I hope I been giving off as I got my hair.
