I am 16 and at school. I want a job for when we leave in a few months. I have had 100% attendence for the past 5 years and I am predicted 12 GCSE's A-C. I havent been in trouble at all. However, this week I got excluded for something what happened on an internet site set up. I didnt do anything wrong but some teachers got insulted and because I was a moderator I got punished.
I saw a job I wanted at Silverscreen yesterday and I want to hand in my CV. The headteacher only saw me last week and he is one of the people they get a reference from. Would this exclusion cost me this job if I hand in my CV? Would the headteacher tell them of this recent exclusion?

I wouldn't think it is in the head teachers interests to mention the exclusion, they like pupils like yourself who are good attenders and get good grades, as this makes the school look good also. but with that expected gcse result why are you not going on to more education, or will the job have day release for you to continue your education as you are only 16?

After my GCSE's finish at the end of May I have about 2 months off before I go to 6th form so I might as well get a job.

Thanks for you answer!
No one can give you a bad reference even a school teacher, if for some reason you didnt get this job, you can by law under the information of freedom act ask why?

Oh thats good. Thanks!

Don't sit back and wonder - go find out! Arrange an interview with the head teacher and put your concerns to him. You have to learn to stick up for yourelf in this life. Dare to be different; don't be one of the crowd. Go for it!

Usually teachers will only focus on your good points and not your bad points - unless you really have been a bad student. Which I don't think you have in this case!!

In your CV make sure you relate to the specific job you are going for! Good Luck!

What ever it was you were blamed for must have been pretty serious to warrant exclusion. However, teachers hurt feelings is no reason for exclusion and frankly your parents should complain to the board of governers and have the exclusion overturned, particularly if the incident was perpetrated without your knowledge (despite assuming responsibility as moderator).

Thank for all your answers.

My mum has just posted a complaint so that I get it off my record. There were 3 others in my position and all have complained so thing should get sorted out.

I gave in my CV today and they said they will contact me for an interview!
Electrix I hope you learn your lesson here. As moderator you were responsible for that site. However I hope your exclusion does not have any lasting effects. Good luck.

Just a quick thought, Electrix. Your English is very good. But your headline "Would this effect my chances?" needs a bit of work. "Effect" is a noun as in "cause and effect"; the result of an action. You needed the verb "affect" (to produce an effect) in there: Would this affect my chances? I hesitate to mention this because every time I do on this site I get a kicking. Fortunately you are young enough and bright enough to take a bit of advice. Cheers!

Haha! Thanks. I always get them mixed up.

Good luck mate with your interview. as a trainer in CV writing and Interview Skills im interested in the type of job you are applying for??What is Silverscreen..sorry but im old!! lol...i cant emphasise enough how you need to mention your good points like reliability etc at interview...the 'biggy' just now at interviews is mentioning 'core skills'..reading, writing, listening, problem solving, IT..sounds pretty basic but honestly, very 'IN' at the moment...

Thanks for that advice!

Silverscreen is a DVD shop. A bit like HMV but just DVD's.
