Is teamwork a concept that hides individual weaknesses and incompetence?

Not in my experience, in mine it is a fun place to be where we support and inspire each other. I like team work.
sometimes I have weak days, my team supports me and helps me like I do them.
I do however think that the management of a team is an integral part, usually it is management that is the problem and not the team.

Yes, to a certain extent I think it is.

For example, in mt last job, there were six of us that all were employed on the same wage to do the same job. One member of the 'team' was definitely crap at her job but was a very influential person, as in she was mates with the bosses and to be honest, a nice person to work with.

So to a certain extent, we 'carried' her. Basically we covered up the fact that she did bu**er all and let her bask in the glory that the 'team' acheived.
As sdjm says though, surely it is up to the Management to spot this. Not that they ever do...
