boss trouble

i found out today, via a friend from work, that my boss has apparently told some other staff members that i am not doing my job properly. i feel that i work hard and i am shocked to hear that she doesn't think so. she says that she is going to speak to me about it. i feel like i should stand up for myself but the problem is she intimidates me. i have never been good at standing up for myself no matter what the situation.i am leaving my job in three months so i feel i will regret it if i just let her say what she likes. its a completely female work place and it can be rather catty at times. my boss tends to go with her emotions a lot of the time rather than whats best for her company. she also tends to have favorites and is constantly picking on the people she doesn't like rather than on the ones who really aren't doing their jobs properly. does anyone have any advice on how to handle my boss when she decides to approach me?

I'd be looking forward to advancing a couple of fingers in a victory sign ... unless there is the remote chance that you will need a reference from this silly woman.
I have always found that someone who *intimidates* others, ie is a bully, is actually a very weak character and if you stand up to them (even just by saying no to some daft suggestion of theirs) they will simply cave in..
Sounds to me like you are better off out of there anyway,,,, what a bonkers way to run a business - based on who the boss likes....
OK, if you think you will EVER need a reference from this silly bint, then just be pleasant and bide your time until you leave... other wise... hehe...

Ask yourself how good the friend is.
Yes, the boss may be a bitch, but one worker telling another that the boss is spreading gossip about them is never a good sign in my experience. I've had similar myself, when someone I thought was a good friend began to spread rumours about me and then told me someone else had started them. I think her aim was to get some sort of reaction because, you know, some people get a kick out of that sort of thing. And it would have been a good way of getting rid of me if I hadn't seen right through it.
If you're leaving anyway, try to ride it out. Keep giving the best you can and watch them both like a hawk.

Ask her to tell you exactly in what ways you are not doing your job and see what she comes up with. This will give you a chance to defend yourself while not appearing too upset.
You could also point out that it is very unprofessional to talk about an employee in such a way to other employees, if she has a problem she should come straight to you!
