I have asked this previously but wont prolongue what I need to ask anyone who is affay with this matter

firstly speaking from anyones personal experiance has anyone recentley visited the USA with a criminal record? if so what did you do to get in ESTA form? or visit the Embassey and london and apply for a visa?

secondly if it you did visit what crime were you convicted for if you have a record, you see I have a harrasment conviction from 2007 (texting my ex) silly stuff but it happens in the heat of the moment.

Is this something I need to worry about? I know moral turpitude plays a factor but that law is a vague as anything I've ever read and I cant see how harrasment stands up next to armed robbery per say as a bad crime

Im booked to go in January 2011, should i tell the embassey now and get myself sorted out can anyone give me a personal insight or atleast some advice without linking me to the US embasseys site

thanks all

I did apply for my esta but more and more folk tell me I need a visa as a criminal conviction is bad....
If you WANT to go to the USA in January, fill in the ESTA and forget about it!

If you DON'T want to go in January, or maybe never, contact the embassy and tell them you have a criminal conviction!
I can give you a textbook answer but it seems that's not what you want so I won't bother.

But you are confusing moral turpitude with seriousness - they are not the same thing, but different ways of looking at crimes.

please give me a text book anwser!
Question Author
um 'deadline' wasnt that a bit of a blunt anwser, i mean surely if that was the case people who have done severe crimes would be filling it out and going

its not so straight forward as you would like to think
The text book answer is you should apply to the US Embassy for a visa and let them decide whether it was moral turpitude or not and if it was whether it was serious enough to prevent you getting a visa.

As to an educated guess on whether it was moral turpitude I suspect that depends on exactly what was in those texts. Any hint of sexual harrassment - moral turpitude. Threats to kill or do serious physical harm - ditto. Doesn't matter if you meant them or not.

Whether if you turn up on an ESTA they will know you have a record and start questioning you about it - no Idea. At one time I would have been confident that they wouldn't, but data sharing is expanding.
Dzug, How many times on here have you answered this question... You are a very patient man. I highly commend you! Where did the 2 come from? What happened?

but meh I dont know bad move

is it ok to stay quiet about it? someone told me they did armed robbery a few years back and didnt say a thing

due to the actions of a few its caused travelling hard for many,

turpitude if you ask me is a stupid word and the american legal system messed up

basically check anyone for what they have, regardless of past
if someone killed my gf(if I had one) and then I killed them and maybe 15-20 yrs down the line I wanted to go to the states and I couldnt that would be a bit of a shame
Gaspanic, I know people who went to Disneyland this year with convictions for dealing. They even shook hands with Mickey!

Get the ESTA filled in and GO!
Question Author
deadline were they from the UK? Did they get convincted for it?
Yep, from the UK. Go for it!
Meant to say they were convicted, but didn't do time. Still have criminal records though.
Question Author
I didnt do time I did community service, also Im asian is that gonna cause more of an issue?
Asian could be Chinese or Indian looking, which look are you?

I'd say just take a chance and complete the paper work without mentioning the crime you committed.
< Where did the 2 come from? What happened? >

Result of computer crashes and forgetting password. AB couldn't send a reminder to an e-mail account I had access to so I had to reregister
i would just go on an ESTA, plead ignorance, you didnt go to jail, it was a heat of the moment thing that you did if questioned and hope you will be fine. i think its better to try than get yourself in deeper and get back the answer NO, good luck. we all do stupid things in heated moments that can be very out of character. its a few years ago now, i assume you have been 'good' ever since. all the best.
Question Author
asian - indian to be precise, also ive read any conviction apart from minor driving offenses need a visa...
OMG has anyone even been to the USA this year with a record please tell me?
