my wife has a British passport but had to go to India as an emergency. To avoid having to get a visa she used her Indian passport. Now however to come back to U.K. she has to produce her old expired Indian passport which she does not have on her, but she does have her British passport on her. What can she do.

The problem (if there is one) is that the Indian authorities will not let her leave on her British passport because it contains no Indian entry stamp or visa.

Don't understand the question.

"To avoid having to get a visa she used her Indian passport."

Why would she need her old expired one to come back?
I assumed it had expired while she was away.
I assume you have considered posting her British passport to her (I'm not sure that's permitted though)
F30 shje has her UK passport with her !
I may be missing something but why can't she come back on her UK passport ?
I misread it. But I don't understand it. If she took her Indian passport and it has now expired why doesn't she still have it? Did she discard it once it expired?
Yes that occured to me as well. She can get a new passport while she is in India and come back on that. Still do not see why she can't just come back in on her UK passport.Unless there is a record against her name as leaving on an Indian passport.

I have assumed your wife has duel nationality, British & Indian, if so she should contact the Indian Pass port office, as I do not think she is entitled to British diplomatic help when in India.

When did she go to India? Thought you had to have at least six months on a Passport to travel?
<<Thought you had to have at least six months on a Passport to travel? >>

Not if the passport is for your own country - she went to India on an Indian passport remember

I'd say she needs to either find her old Indian passport or get a new Indian passport before she can leave the country. I'm not sure if it would need a new British visa in it as well
