Is is possible for someone to sell their house to their daughter for 1 and continue to live in it for another 5-7 years.
After which, they tell the local council that the daughter wants to sell the house, thus making them homeless, and request the council to provide them with a small flat?
yes you can sell your house to anyone you choose. however i wouldnt hold your breath for the council. i was living with my mum, dad and grandad. in a house sharing a room with my daughter for 6 months i was on the homeless list and ended up private renting as they wouldnt do anything there are people out there with a genuine need for housing and i think that would be a bit selfish to expect the council to re home you when you have made yourself homeless!
Thye dont have to house you if you have made yourself intentionally homeless
Plan A as you have described alos involves somehting called reservation of benefit (you have disposed of the house and still live in it)
and the transaction is not at arms length ( to a child and not at market value)
I mean try it and see
if the scam goes wrong, you can only ruin yourself !
I know a single person who is staying with friends, as she doesn't have her own property and is on incapacity benefit. The council have agreed to house her.....but in a hostel, along with mentally ill people and drug addicts. So it's a bit of a risk!
My daughter was recently made homeless because the owner of the house they rented wanted to sell it. She has two small children and was told - by the local council - that she would have to prersent herself and the children (with belongings) on the day of her eviction and they would put her in a hostel until suitable accommodation could be found - but not to hold her breath!
