Can i claim housing benefit for a house owned by my father
i recieve housing benefit for a house which i rent from a private landlord.
he has told me that the mortgage payments for the house i am renting from him have gone up
I spoke to the council and they told me i have to cover the shortfall myself as i allready recieve the maximum ammount of benefit.
There is no way i can cover the shortfall so my father has aggreed to buy a house and let it to me (buy to let)
Will i still be able to claim housing benefit?

yes it will be ok, cos my dad and i did the same thing, as long as it is done properly with tenacy agreement and rent book and all that, and of course you have to be seen to be paying the shortfall.

as i said...i would still get the house regardless of where live now...
lots of parents leave thier kids property in wills...what the difference?
point is wherever i lived, i would need my rent to be paid for a few weeks at a time here an there, and my dad would get rent
so whats the differnce?
as i said its all about people hating to think someone else has a lucky situation...
Boo...no...people dont seem to be able to accept that its ok to be related to your landlord...thats what kicked all this off...
snakeyes...not in the least...like i said...try ot read the post properly

its usually about 3-4 weeks but can be up to 2-3 months...it varies...but i can pay the rent happily in those time.
i pay my taxes too...so i am entitled to help as an when i need it...
my parent are not well off at all...they have a few properties and get a bit of rent...2 of the properties are in a state and empty...two are rented out...mine and one other
these are just basic houses...nothing special
why do you assume they are so loaded that they can afford to give away houses?
so its down to jealousy then?

the point its my dads property - bought with the intention of givign him an income and seeing him through his retirement
the fact that its me paying is irrelevant

he bought them all abotu 40-50 years ago...thats why some have become unusable...he hasnt had the cash to pay for repairs....and thats why i pay him rent ...he would love to be able to let me live rent free...
