The jury in this case have returned an 'unlawful killing verdict. I am so pleased and hope that the officer involved will face criminal proceedings. For too long, thugs within the police force have been getting away with things like this. Why the CPS initially said that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute this officer is beyond me. Who else would get away with using a weapon against a strolling man, hands in pockets, and then pushing him violently, with all of this caught on camera?
Fair point, sqad, but all of that aside, surely, even if what the officer did had not contributed to Mr Tomlinson's death, and the baton swipe was not visible, the officer should have faced charges for the unprovoked push, as would any member of the public. I was incensed when I first saw that footage, so I am pleased for the man's family because god knows what they've been through.
It's just been reported that all of the image evidence that was available to the jury at the inquest, WAS available to the CPS before they decided not to take action.
The officer said that prior to this attack he felt his life had been threatened on numerous occaisions on that day, that`s no excuse for attacking a man walking away from him albeit slowly!
They should be using their batons on the yobs smashing up cashpoints and shops
Depending on what angle of video you watch you can quite clearly see Mr Tomlinson being struck from behind with a truncheon and then pushed over by this 'up holder of the law'
pink....the first video showed him being "poked" from behind....not likely to cause liver damage in my opinion, in a "normal" liver anyway.
The second video was unfortunately obscured by a head at the time of impact, so i couldn't see what happened.
I am still not convinced that that particular blow could cause internal bleeding from his liver and cause his death, but the experts have deemed otherwise.
I can see the blow/strike/bash in the 2nd video quite clearly, but even being pushed like that from behind and not being able to save yourself from the fall can cause serious injury. And it was serious - he died. No one can actually tell what injury he suffered from watching either video's linked, not even you Sqad but the experts there who saw, looked and autopsied their way through his body can and have
Sqad, you dont have to be convinced, the coroner does though as do the judge and jury when this officer is made to pay for his unjustified actions
