Can anyone tell me what the sentence is likely to be for attempted rape and GBH? The offender has previous convictions for violence (different victim). The injuries received involve tearing to the vagina, bruised head and jaw and various scratches.

The victim in this case is my daughter and the offender her ex boyfriend.

hiya, do you know exactly what he's been charged with? Those injuries don't sound like GBH

The charges aren't 100% set yet, this is what the police told my daughter he would likely be charged with. The tearing to her vagina is severe and will require surgery to fix.
i know what it should be....lock him up and throw away the key. My thoughts are with you and especially your daughter.

Thank you mickrog.
I also meant to say that this person has gone on the run and as of this afternoon hasn't been located.
That's dreadful, daffy....:o(

My best thoughts to your daughter and family.
Is this scrote likely to plead guilty?
The fact that he has previous will, hopefully, be taken into account and he'll be going away for a long time.
That's terrible daffy.
I can't answer you question but my thoughts are with you and your daughter and family.

He won't plead guilty judging by what he said to one of his friends about the incident. He said it was my daughter's fault because she wouldn't have sex with him :( He has also claimed that she overreacted and exaggerated but her injuries say different. She had to flee her house wearing nothing but a bra and he then locked himself in her house with her 2 young children (not his), the neighbours had to lend her a blanket to cover up and phone the police for her.
I am incandescent with rage at him but I know this is pointless. My job is to support my daughter through this.
I'm amazed that Bednobs feels that those injuries don't amount to GBH!
As far as I'm concerned rapists should have the book thrown at them perhaps they might think twice before they forceably impose themselves on victims who will carry the mental scars, if not the physical ones, for many years afterwards.
My good wishes to your daughter daffy; I hope she finds the strength to get through this.
Awww daffy, I can' offer advice, just wanted to offer you moral support. What a horrible thing to happen to you daughter.

My thoughts are with her, and you all. xxxx
Perhaps once he has been caught, this charmer will realise that the weight of evidence against him leaves him precious little option other than to plead guilty?

I'm sorry no-one can give you a definitive answer. I suppose that will have to wait until he has been charged and you find out exactly what those charges are.

Best wishes. xx
So sorry Daffy :-( xx
in june last year a man convicted of rape, attempted rape and gbh was convicted for 6 years + 6.5 years. in that case the gbh constituted hitting the poor girl with a lead pipe seveeral times and leaving her for dead after raping her.

so in many a sense i agree with bednobs, the gbh may be set aside by the more severe attempted rape charge, but again to put a number on it is difficult but i wouldn't expect any more than 2-3 years at most if that.

Thanks everyone.
We will all be relieved when he is in custody. I just hope my oh doesn't bump into him beforehand as he will likely attack him and get himself into trouble.
ditto! life in jail is too good for him!

i wouldn't hold out much hope of any great sentence though!

are you getting counselling as a family and for your daughter seperately?

My daughter will be getting counselling cath, I don't need it myself, I just need to see him locked up!
Hopefully a long time Daffy- I'm so sorry this has happened. Did he use any weapon against her or just his fists to cause the bruising to head and jaw?
hiya, re GBh, i always thought that it was things like compound fractures, injuries that were severe and enduring or needed lengthy hospital treatment, trasfusions etc
you are the victim of violence too!

((hugs))

I don't know what constitutes GBH, he has completely shredded her perineum (and I do mean completely!) She will require surgery to fix it. Her jaw is severely bruised and she has a large cut and bruise on her head where he threw her from the wall to the window and the bed.
I honestly don't care what he is charged with as long as he gets prison time.
it will be better news if he is charged with GBH, but sometimes they might plea down to the lesser charge
