Fire escape window
10 Answers
I recently installed a window , which was also meant to act as an emergency fire exit . Building control won't sign off the works because the window supplied was a "easy-clean" ie it rotates to a half way position for easy cleaning .
Obviously the window will have to be altered as egress is now difficult , today I've looked at the hinge arrangement and was wondering if it would be possible to alter this thus causing less damage to plaster , stonework etc ?
Or is there another quick fix ?
ps noticed that Mr B was around !

Its 1000 long x 550 wide hung on the long ( vertical ) side .
The opening mechanism is a lot of criss crossed metal bars , know what I mean ?
A door type hinge won't work owing to the frame holding the glass "overlaps" the outer frame as a weather seal .
Shall I try to find a similar one online ?
Cheers marty

Oh, I see.............. reflex hinges......... where the casement slides towards the centre. They do make these in a "means of escape" variety, but that's no use to you unless you replace it.
There is a particular type of reflex friction hinge that gives a full opening for means of escape. Easy job to swap hinges.
