Leaking Shower

Hi we have a holiday let with an upstairs shower - which I think is fine ( but may not be ) anyway visitor flood the floor area outside the shower cubicle and it pours down through the floor boards to the flat below ( it exits through the fire alarm so the ceiling is actually ok - but the alarm gets wet and sounds )

I don't think the water is coming though the shower it's self because countless people use it and it has only happened a few times (each time I have checked it the floor has been soaked ) however inside the shower I have lifted the bottom row of tiles and found the wall slightly damp so I have renewed all those and re sealed the internal part of the shower - However I haven't got a clue how to stop the water penetrating from the floor outside the shower ( and yes I have told the guests to be careful ) any help PLEASE !!

If the floor near the shower is covered with carpet, try lifting the carpet and inserting a waterproof liner underneath. If the floor is covered with something impermeable (lino, plastic tiles) try putting a thick rug or similar next to the shower. By the way, has the shower cubicle got a rigid door or a shower curtain?

Thanks book binder - it has a rigid door and it is a lino floor I think it is flowing through the edge of the lino at the shower tray and wall next to the tray although I am not expert enough to seal it - I was thinking of ripping up the lino and taking a look but if that's the case how will I successfully seal the new lino back down ( can I get someone to do this who would guarantee no leakage ?? ) I don't think I am good enough to cure it myself

It seems to me that the cause of the leak ought to be tracked down, rather than just stopping the water getting past the floor covering. It might be that the water is escaping through a gap at the bottom edge of the cubicle door. Check if a plastic seal is fitted to the bottom edge. Could your guests just be showering with the door open? (or, at least, not properly closed)

thanks book binder - turns out the tiles themselves are porous - they are supposed to be white but the ones at the lower end of the shower are pale blue ? I didn't know why so we got a fella to take a look and that's what he said - makes sense to me - so we are covering them with shower boarding that should do the trick ?? fingers crossed
